Weather Channel Biased
I know this is old, but it’s still funny to watch. Enjoy!

Since last week’s dip into the minus numbers, high temperatures in the 20′s make it feel like a heatwave. Unfortunately it will not last long, as a strong trough will once again dip into the eastern seaboard with 850mb temps in the -30′s over the next 72 hours. So enjoy it for now, cause come saturday, we may see low tempuratures in the minus signs again
Thanks to Award Space (and a happy checking account), I have finally created my first dot com website. The Human METAR now lives on www.humanmetar.com. Not much has changed, with the exception of a new page about METAR’s (for the weather n00bs wondering what a METAR actually is). All of my operations will run here. So be sure to change your links!
I am starting the last week of winter break, and I am beginning to get things ready for next semester. Here are the classes I plan on taking:
Just like last semester, I will be teaching two weather labs. So the classes remain constant, but I have a feeling this will be a less stressful semester. Meaning more time to blog!!!
| My Forecast | Boyd Observation | |
| Wednesday | 14°F | 8.0°F |
| Wednesday Night | -1°F | -7.5°F |
| Thursday | 8°F | 12.1°F |
| Thursday Night | -10°F | -19.6°F |
Oh man has it been cold. And Plymouth Airport (K1P1) Has been much colder than the Boyd observation, due to the airport being in the valley of the Baker River. Their low this morning was -27°F!
Fortunately the 850mb temps will begin to warm up over the next 24-36 hours. So we could see highs in the teens and 20′s again…YAY!
As if i hasn’t gotten cold enough, temperatures are going to fall to single digits, if not below zero temperatures on Thursday and Friday.
Current 850mb analysis shows an upper level trough sweeping through the new england area tonight, which will give us about an inch or 2 of snow. However once it passes through, strong cold air advection upstream of the trough will help to bring in 850mb temperatures around -20C on Thursday, and -25°C on Friday.
Now I’m all for cold weather, but this is possibly too cold. The NWS in Gray Maine has issued this statement:
ARCTIC AIR ARRIVES ON WEDNESDAY AND WILL BRING THE COLDEST WEATHER
OF THE SEASON THUS FAR. GUSTY NORTHWEST WINDS ON WEDNESDAY WILL
PRODUCE WIND CHILLS OF 15 TO 25 BELOW IN THE MOUNTAINS AND
FOOTHILLS…AND BETWEEN ZERO AND 15 BELOW ELSEWHERE. WHILE WINDS
WILL DIMINISH BY WEDNESDAY EVENING…THE INTENSE COLD WILL LINGER INTO
SATURDAY BEFORE EASING. ACTUAL AIR TEMPERATURES WILL STRUGGLE TO
REACH THE SINGLE NUMBERS AND TEENS BY DAY…WITH OVERNIGHT LOWS IN
THE SINGLE NUMBERS AND TEENS BELOW ZERO.
48-72 hr Tempreature Forecast
Wednesday: 14°F
WednesdayNight: -1°F
Thursday : 8°F
Thursday Night: -10°F
Not only will I be trying to forecast some more, I also plan on verifying my forecasts to see how I do. However it’s still going to be mind-numbing cold no matter what, so BUNDLE UP!
